Front Door
As a focus for the main entry we proposed a large teak pivot front door. You can see attached a picture with the actual door as it arrived on site today, but stay tuned to see the final product installed with all the necessary hardware. This will be an impressive door.

Garapa deck
Rainy day on the job site today. The Garapa decking is almost complete, the steel structure for the Garapa trellis is in place, and next week the railing will be installed.
Deck, views, backyard
Even on a gloomy, rainy day like today the views from all over the house are still beautiful

Details & materials
The crew is currently working on the deck garapa louvered wall and the stair. The louvers and screen hide the storage area under the deck but also create a beautiful horizontal lines that tie into the garapa stair steps & risers.
The brick used for this patio was salvaged during demolition from the existing house. This is a great way to reuse an existing material and a create a nice memory for the Owners of the house they lived in for more than 20 years.

February 2014
The attached image compares the back side of the house when we started in 2012, to how it looks now. As you can see, the cantilevered extension in the back of the house is almost completely enclosed and the concrete curb & footings for the deck are being poured this week. The entire south facade was opened with storefront windows so the Owners can enjoy the beautiful views of the woods from any location in the house.

Front elevation - Compare images
The attached images compare the front elevation between the existing house (fall 2012) and the house under construction at this time. By extending it horizontally and keeping the roof line at the same elevation, the scale of the house didn't change and it fits perfect into the neighborhood.

The new geothermal wells are installed underground in the front yard, the garage concrete slab has been poured and the extensions for the Master Bedroom & Office / Laundry Area are built.

GeoThermal Heat Pump
Today was an exciting day on site: (3) wells (approximately four inches in diameter) were drilled approximately 200 feet deep. Two high-density polyethylene pipes were installed in each of the holes and are connected at the bottom with a U-bend to form a loop. The vertical loops will be connected with a horizontal pipe (via a manifold), will be placed in trenches, connected to the heat pump in the basement and filled with an environmentally friendly antifreeze/water solution that acts as a heat exchanger.
Ranch Style Redux Residence ground source heat pump system will take advantage of the steady state temperature of the earth for heating and cooling. In winter heat is extracted from the earth and delivered to the house. In summer heat is removed from the house and absorbed by the earth. Through the heat pump system the earth’s stored energy is accessed with minimal energy expenditure.

CMU Foundation Walls
Due to the plastic covers that the crew installed a few months back, the bad rainy weather didn't stop the construction. Hidden below the covers, the CMU Foundation Walls are almost complete.
